Imire: Rhino and Elephant Conservation Volunteer Programme

Over 70% of Zimbabwe’s wildlife has been decimated in past decades, so why not help make a difference by joining one of our wildlife conservation volunteer programmes, based here at Imire – we are always in need of volunteers to make a real difference and impact both within the game park and to the communities around us. Leave your footprint, knowing that you have helped protect and conserve one of our planet’s most endangered and vulnerable species, the black rhino.

Our Wildlife Conservation Programme focuses on black rhino and elephant conservation where volunteers will get hands on experience in our rhino breeding programme and elephant interaction initiatives. Your time is split between working with and observing the rhino and elephant, game park management, anti-poaching and community outreach.

We also offer an Equine Management and Wildlife Conservation Programme which is for the horse-lovers out there. If you fancy combining horse riding through the African bush, equine husbandry, cattle ranching and anti-poaching patrols with rhino conservation, then this programme is for you!

We believe that for conservation programmes to have long term sustainability they must be combined with community outreach and empowerment initiatives. Every volunteer at Imire will help in our local schools providing teaching assistance, conservation support and environmental education to the children. This is often the most popular part of the programme!

Our wildlife conservation programmes need volunteers in order to grow. But you’ll find that you grow a little bit, too, after a volunteering experience with Imire.

  2. I volunteered at Imire over 20 years ago. It is without doubt one of the highlights of my life – learning so much about conservation and wildlife management in one of the most beautiful places on earth, in the company of the most welcoming and knowledgeable hosts, was truly magical. I can recommend the experience highly to anyone lucky enough to be heading to Imire.

  3. This is a great post, I think you should turn it into a 2 or 3 part series.

  4. I grew up at numwa a school just beside imire, my mom has been teaching there since 80′s. I was fortunate to be attached at imire for my attachment. Though i was at the farm section i had chance to have funny in the game park and my friend was a volunteer there. I dont hesitate to reccomend any voluntary programs offered at imire game park.
